A01 - Website
In this project, you’ll be redesign - or as some rightly argue “realign” - the Library home page for Andrews University. The project will be divided into three main components, with a fourth component incorporating another class. This project will introduce you to the steps, strategies, and challenges a web designer faces - making a design that is customer-centered and not ego-centered (aka. designer-centered). You’ll be required to do research, sketches, wire-frames, designs, and presentations (in media and print format).Part 1 - Group Dynamic
Timeframe: 1.31.01 - 2.14.08
Research and Brainstorm and Learn
This first part will call for you to share your research, bring your thoughts and ideas, and learn what direction to take for your design
Develop
With the information in hand, formulate a layout [sketch(es)] that looks to incorporate these findings. You can discuss your layout with the group and then work on a basic wireframe of your sketch.
Complete
Do a simple rendering of your idea - a wireframe in InDesign - and get feedback from your group as to the strong and weak points of your layout.
Point Value: 50ptsAt the end of this time frame you’ll turn in your
- research
- sketches
- wireframe
If you, or your group, do not have all three components, the instructor may deduct point dependent upon the lack of development.
Part 2 - Individual Creativity
Timeframe: 2.15.08 - 3.3.08
Research
You’ll need to have a rationale behind your choices of fonts and colors.
Develop
This may take a a bit, but it’s now time to develop your design. You may end up with a few choices in the end, but the only thing that should really vary at this point within each design is color, images, and typography - your layout should follow the wireframe you ended with. You can do your design in Photoshop, Illustrator, or InDesign - talk with me about any other alternatives. If you develop your layout in Photoshop, it would be best to Download Grid Maker Script for Photoshop, from Andrew Ingram.
- Copy and Paste the script into a text editor and save it as: GridMaker2.jsx
- Install the script document in the Scripts folder in Photoshop … Photoshop CS(2/3)>Presets>Scripts>GridMaker2.jsx
Complete
Once you’ve finished your designs, you may want to return to your group for feedback.
Point Value: 50pts
At the end of this time frame you’ll turn in:
- your designs
- summary of color and font selections
If you do not have all required components, the instructor may deduct point dependent upon the lack of development.March 4th and March 6th, we’ll critique the designs.
Part 3 - Presentation
Timeframe: 3.4.08 - 3.16.08
Develop
Develop a written presentation of your project - we’ll go more over what this contains.
Complete
Be ready to verbally and visually present your project to the class (March 14th or 16th), the instructor, and the client. The oral presentation should not be more than 5 minutes in length - there will be a 4 minute Q&A session following your presentation .
Point Value: 100ptsYou’ll turn in your
- written proposal and final design(s) to the instructor
- present, verbally, your design to the class and the client
- answer any questions by the client
This part will be held on March 11th and 13th. Do not fail to make either class or major points will be deducted.
Part 4 - Collaboration
Timeframe: approx. 3.11.08
Complete
Some designs will then be turned over to the DGME350::Web Design II class to use in a project to help bring the designs into a working Web site.ART414-a01-timeline document
